Achieve anything with your sign through your craftsmanship.

At Lumacurve Airfield Signs, we take pride in our craftsmanship and commitment to quality. Our company was founded in 1936 by Vern Messner, who started as a porcelain enameling services provider. Over the years, we have evolved to become a leading manufacturer of airfield signs, building on the legacy of our founder. Our company has been family-owned and operated, with four generations of the Messner family involved in its growth and development.

Our Story

Our story began in 1936 when Vern Messner founded Standard Signs Inc in Cleveland, Ohio. In the 1940s, he expanded his services to provide porcelain enameling for factories, mills, and warehouses. During World War II, our company shifted its production to heat-treat aircraft parts. After the war, Vern developed the first airfield guidance sign specification, the L-829, which was issued by the Civil Aeronautics Authority, the precursor to the FAA. Vern's design was the first to be approved, marking the beginning of our journey in airfield signs.

In the 1950s and 1960s, our company continued to grow under the leadership of Vern's sons, Andy and Steve. They responded to the need for improved airfield signs, introducing the LUMACURVE in 1982. This curved-face sign design provided uniform lighting and easily absorbed jet blast. Our innovative design quickly gained popularity among airfields, with six of the top 10 airfields choosing Lumacurve products.
