Paints are carefully applied with brush, chosen for their richness and ability to complement the wood's natural beauty. And finally, to add a touch of true elegance, gilding with 23-karat gold leaf is applied in the traditional manner, gleaming with an enduring brilliance.

The Dorr Journey

The story of Dorr Woodcarving & Sign Co. is a testament to the enduring power of dedication, passion, and a love for the craft. It began in 1971 when Chuck Dorr, inspired by a woodworking class, discovered his talent for carving. Chuck's passion and natural ability quickly flourished, leading him to form "The Carving Place" with his mentor, Paul McCarthy. After four years, Chuck joined forces with David Hassan, forming "Cohasset Woodcraft Carving Shop, " a partnership built on shared values of quality, consistency, and a commitment to perfection.

With Dale by his side, Chuck continued to refine his craft, and together they embarked on a new chapter, settling in Appleton, Maine, in 1985. From his home workshop, Chuck built a loyal clientele, his hand-carved signs gracing local businesses and residences. In 1992, Chuck and Dale purchased a historic house in Rockport, Maine, transforming it into a dedicated workshop for Dorr Woodcarving & Sign Co., a space that reflects their dedication to the art and a tribute to their journey together.
